Roddick rolls in Legg Mason opener (AP)

Second-seeded Andy Roddick had little trouble in his opening match of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, beating Serbian qualifier Grega Zemjla 6-4, 6-4 in the second round on Tuesday night. Roddick, who had a first-round bye, never faced a break point against Zemlja and didn’t lose a point in his last four service games.

Zvonareva wins in return at Carlsbad (AP)

Vera Zvonareva won her first match since finishing as the Wimbledon runner-up, beating Dominika Cibulkova 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 on Monday at the Mercury Insurance Open. The third-seeded Zvonareva jumped out quickly against her Slovakian opponent in her return to the court following her straight-set loss to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon finals.

Fish extends win streak to 11 matches (AP)

Mardy Fish extended his career-longest winning streak to 11 matches, beating Viktor Troicki 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Tuesday. Fish, who is seeded 15th, has won his past two tournaments, in Newport and Atlanta. His last loss came in the second round at Wimbledon.

Serena, Isner to team at Hopman Cup (AP)

Top-ranked Serena Williams will team with John Isner to represent the United States in a star-studded field at the Hopman Cup international tournament in January. Williams and Isner will join the Serbian pair of Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic, Belgium’s Justine Henin, Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and France’s Gael Monfils in the mixed teams tournament which runs Jan.

Blake ousted in DC in latest early exit (AP)

By losing six consecutive points, James Blake was heading for his latest early exit from a tournament. After one particularly poor shot capped that stretch, he threw his head back and yelled. “I definitely get angry at myself, frustrated at myself. … I’m a competitor. I’m going to want to win everything I play, whether it’s tennis, golf, cards, checkers, chess.

Kleybanova defeats Rezai in Carlsbad (AP)

Alisa Kleybanova beat Aravane Rezai 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 on Monday in the first round of the Mercury Insurance Open. In a match of unseeded players, Kleybanova easily won the first set before her French opponent broke serve at 5-all, then served out the second set. After the pair traded service breaks early in the final set, Kleybanova broke Rezai twice more en route to the win.

Li, Georges advance at Danish Open (AP)

Second-seeded Li Na beat Kristyna Pliskova 7-6 (5), 6-3 Monday in the first round of the Danish Open. Li broke Pliskova in the fourth game of the first set to lead 3-1, but the 241st-ranked Pliskova broke back to force a tiebreaker. Li broke once in the second set to close out the indoor hard-court match.

Querrey defends Farmers Classic title (AP)

Sam Querrey sure was consistent. He went the distance in all four of his matches at the Farmers Classic, fending off a match point in the second set of the final to beat Andy Murray. Querrey won 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Sunday and successfully defended the title he won last year in his hometown. The 22-year-old American became the first player to repeat in Los Angeles since Andre Agassi in 2001-02.

Azarenka beats Sharapova, wins Stanford (AP)

Victoria Azarenka looks forward to some cake and ice cream and a quick visit with friends and family in Arizona. She finally has some time to enjoy her 21st birthday. No. 8 seed Azarenka beat No. 5 Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-1 on Sunday to win the Bank of the West Classic, her first title of the season. “This is one of the best, definitely,” said the young Belarusian.

Almagro tops Gasquet in Swiss Open final (AP)

Nicolas Almagro of Spain has beaten France’s Richard Gasquet in the Swiss Open final. The second-seeded Almagro took just 75 minutes on Gstaad’s outdoor clay to overpower Gasquet 7-5, 6-1. It is Almagro’s seventh title and the second of the year after Bastad two weeks ago. The seventh-seeded Gasquet was also aiming for a seventh title after winning at Nice earlier this year.
